How many types of cancer cells are there in lung cancer?

Lung cancer is generally divided into four categories:

1. Squamous cell carcinoma: This type of lung cancer has the highest incidence, accounting for almost half of lung cancer patients. Most of these patients are over 50 years old, and the majority are men. Most originate from larger bronchi and are often central lung cancers. Lung cancer develops slowly, has a long course, and is sensitive to radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

2. Undifferentiated carcinoma: The incidence of lung cancer in men is higher than that in women, and the age of onset is younger. It originates from the larger bronchi and is a central lung cancer. According to the morphology of tissue cells, it can be divided into oat cells, small round cells and large cells, among which oat cells are the most common. It is sensitive to radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and has the worst prognosis.

3. Adenocarcinoma: This type of lung cancer has a relatively low incidence rate and is more common in women at a younger age. Most adenocarcinomas originate from smaller bronchi and are peripheral lung cancers. There are generally no obvious clinical symptoms in the early stages and it is often found in chest X-ray examinations, appearing as a round or oval mass. It generally grows slowly, but sometimes it metastasizes to the blood early and lymph nodes later.

4. Alveolar cell carcinoma: This is the lowest incidence type of lung cancer, more common in women. It is generally highly differentiated and grows slowly. Cancer cells grow along the bronchioles, alveolar ducts and alveolar walls without invading the alveolar septa.
