Is inflammatory bowel disease prone to death?

When suffering from intestinal diseases, people often experience abdominal pain, bloody stools and vomiting, but is symptomatic intestinal disease prone to death? If not treated in time, it will be life-threatening. It is understood that acute intestinal disease is a hemorrhagic necrotic inflammation, which may even cause the entire small intestine to damage in a short period of time. If not treated in time, it may be life-threatening. Therefore, we must be vigilant when inflammatory bowel disease occurs.

Can acute hemorrhagic enteritis cause death?

1. Timely treatment will not result in death.

2. Acute hemorrhagic enteritis, also known as acute necrotizing enteritis, is a localized acute hemorrhagic necrotizing inflammation that often occurs in the small intestine. The lesions are mainly in the jejunum or ileum, or even the entire small intestine, and occasionally the colon may be affected. It is a life-threatening, fulminant disease with unclear etiology. Its onset is related to intestinal ischemia, infection and other factors, and it is more common in spring and autumn.

What to do with acute hemorrhagic enteritis

1. For general treatment, pay attention to rest and fasting. During abdominal pain, bloody stools and fever, you should stay in bed and fast. You can only eat liquid food when vomiting stops, blood in the stool decreases, and abdominal pain is relieved, and then gradually increase the amount. During the fasting period, high-nutrient solution should be infused intravenously, such as 10% glucose, compound amino acids and hydrolyzed protein. Eating too early may cause a relapse of the disease, but resuming eating too late may affect nutritional status and delay recovery. Gastrointestinal decompression can be performed for patients with severe abdominal distension and vomiting. Antispasmodics can be given for abdominal pain.

2. Anti-shock and quickly replenish effective circulating blood volume. In addition to supplementing crystalloid solutions, colloid fluids such as plasma, fresh whole blood or human serum albumin should be appropriately transfused. Those whose blood pressure does not rise can be treated with vasoactive drugs, such as α-receptor blockers, β-receptor stimulants or scopolamine, which can be used as appropriate.

3. Adrenal cortical hormones can alleviate symptoms of poisoning, inhibit allergic reactions, and help correct shock, but there is a risk of aggravating intestinal bleeding and promoting intestinal perforation.

4. Symptomatic treatment: those with severe abdominal pain can be given pethidine; those with high fever and irritability can be given oxygen, antipyretics, sedatives or physical cooling.

5. For patients with severe and localized lesions, intestinal segment resection and anastomosis can be performed;

6. For patients with intestinal necrosis or intestinal perforation, intestinal segment resection, perforation repair or intestinal externalization can be performed.

Whether enteritis is fatal depends on whether it is treated promptly. If not, it can easily lead to danger. On the contrary, if the disease is treated promptly, it can reduce the harm of the disease and will not be fatal. Everyone must pay attention to gastrointestinal diseases. Generally, people with such diseases will experience unbearable pain, which will greatly delay work. The best treatment is to prevent gastrointestinal diseases and pay attention to dietary regularity.
