Gastroscopy is an important examination that people are often asked to do in daily life. It can not only detect stomach problems, but also detect duodenal diseases. However, many people are resistant to gastroscopy because they do not know what the side effects of gastroscopy are. In fact, there are no side effects of gastroscopy and it will not hurt the stomach. However, you must pay attention to the following 5 points before doing a gastroscopy. 1. In order for the gastroscope to clearly see the mucous membrane of the digestive tract, the patient must make the examined area very clean, that is, there is no food or blood clots remaining. If you have a gastroscopy in the morning, do not eat or drink anything, and do not smoke, after 8pm the night before the examination. Eat food with less residue and easy to digest for dinner the day before. Because even if the patient drinks a small amount of water, the color of the gastric mucosa can change. If the gastroscopy is done in the afternoon, the patient can drink some sugar water before 8 am that day, but cannot eat anything else and must not eat at noon. 2. The patient cannot undergo gastric lavage on the same day of the examination, as gastric lavage will change the color of the gastric mucosa. If a barium meal examination has been done, the barium may be attached to the gastrointestinal mucosa, especially the site of ulcer lesions, making fiber gastroscopy diagnosis difficult. Therefore, gastroscopy must be performed 3 days after the barium meal examination. 3. The patient and doctor should cooperate. Before the examination, the patient should go to urinate to empty the bladder. After entering the examination room, loosen the collar and belt, lie on the left side, or change to other positions as needed. After inserting the mirror, do not bite it with your teeth to avoid biting the plastic tube of the mirror body. The body and head cannot be rotated to avoid damaging the mirror and injuring the internal organs. If there is any discomfort, the patient can endure it for a while. If it is unbearable, he or she can use gestures to signal the operator (doctor or nurse) so that necessary measures can be taken. 4. Since the anesthetic effect has not disappeared, eating too early can easily cause food to enter the trachea. Therefore, wait 2 hours after the examination until the effect of the pharyngeal anesthetic disappears before trying liquid food. Within 1 to 4 days, the patient may feel discomfort or pain in the throat, but it will not affect eating. Most people can work as usual. Those with more serious conditions can be given rest. The driver cannot drive alone on that day. 5. Patients with certain diseases cannot undergo gastroscopy, such as spinal deformity, unconsciousness, mental illness, cor pulmonale, asthma, high blood pressure, and patients who are deemed unsuitable for gastroscopy by the doctor. |
