The probability of elevated carcinoembryonic antigen in early colorectal cancer

Intestinal cancer is clinically called colorectal cancer. The carcinoembryonic antigen of patients with early colorectal cancer has poor specificity and low sensitivity. About 45% of colorectal cancer patients will have elevated carcinoembryonic antigen levels in the early stages.

Colorectal cancer refers to cancer originating from the large intestine epithelium, including colon cancer, rectal cancer, etc., with rectal cancer being more common. Carcinoembryonic antigen is an important tumor marker for colorectal cancer patients, and its normal value is 0~5ng/ml. By understanding the indicators of carcinoembryonic antigen, it is possible to evaluate the condition and determine whether there are signs of recurrence. In the early stages of colorectal cancer, some patients will have a slight increase in carcinoembryonic antigen values when undergoing carcinoembryonic antigen testing, but some patients' carcinoembryonic antigen values are within the normal range.

When doing carcinoembryonic antigen test for early colorectal cancer, the value is within the normal range, which cannot be completely ruled out. Further diagnosis is required at the hospital through colonoscopy, fecal occult blood test, barium meal X-ray and other related tests. If there are no other abnormalities in the body, follow up at the hospital regularly to understand the health status of the body. If colorectal cancer is confirmed, endoscopic mucosal resection, mucosal stripping, radiotherapy and other methods can be used for treatment under the guidance of a doctor based on the condition. During treatment, you need to pay attention to rest to avoid excessive fatigue that affects recovery.
