Is microwave ablation effective for a 73-year-old with peripheral lung cancer?

If a 73-year-old patient has peripheral lung cancer and it is in the early stages, microwave ablation is generally a good option. But if it has developed to the middle or late stages, surgery, radiotherapy, and other treatments may be needed.

1. Good use

1. Early stage: For small peripheral lung cancer, when there is no spread or metastasis, microwave ablation can be used for treatment, which can directly kill tumor cells and achieve the purpose of cure. However, due to the older age and poor physical fitness of the patients, it is necessary to choose carefully when doing microwave ablation.

2. Mid-term: If the disease progresses rapidly and obvious symptoms appear, such as chest tightness, shortness of breath, and cough, then microwave ablation alone will not be effective. Chemotherapy or radiotherapy is also needed to assist in improving and inhibiting the growth and development of cancer cells.

2. Situations where it doesn’t work well

If the patient is in poor physical condition and cannot tolerate surgery or radiotherapy, and the lesion is large, causing compression on surrounding tissues and organs, and causing symptoms such as dyspnea, microwave ablation is not suitable for treatment. It is recommended to seek medical attention in a timely manner and choose the appropriate treatment method according to the doctor's advice based on the specific situation.

In daily life, we should pay attention to healthy diet, eat more fresh fruits and vegetables and high-protein foods, and eat less spicy, irritating and greasy foods. Exercise appropriately, ensure adequate sleep time, avoid staying up late for a long time. Maintain a good attitude and avoid being too emotional.
