Does the wound heal after the anal fistula is cut?

Does the wound heal after the anal fistula is cut?

Anal fistula is a common disease. Suffering from anal fistula will make patients miserable. It has a great impact on the patient's daily life, physical health and work. Anal fistula needs to be actively treated. People who have undergone anal fistula surgery may know that granulation tissue needs to be trimmed after surgery, but most people do not know much about trimming granulation tissue. If granulation tissue grows after anal fistula surgery, has the wound healed?

Does the wound of anal fistula heal?

Many patients are very scared when they hear that they have granulation tissue. In fact, there is no need to be afraid of granulation tissue. What is granulation tissue? In fact, granulation tissue is not a bad thing. It is the "new flesh" that grows during the healing process of our wounds. All anorectal surgeries involve open wounds, which require new granulation tissue to fill the wounds. The wounds will only heal after they have grown sufficiently.

What kind of granulation needs to be treated?

Many people believe that granulation tissue hinders wound healing, so they must be treated as soon as they grow. This idea is wrong. There is a term in Traditional Chinese Medicine called "pterygium". This pterygium is different from normal tissue. It is a granulation tissue that is higher than the wound surface and is more prone to bleeding. This kind of granulation tissue grows relatively weak, in layman's terms, it is not solid. If it is not treated at this time, it will easily form false healing (generally speaking, the wound below has not healed yet, but the skin above has already healed, which will cause the anal fistula to not heal for a long time) or cause infection. Therefore, we need to look at granulation tissue in two ways. If the granulation tissue grows during the tissue repair process, it means that the wound is healing normally; if the granulation tissue is edematous or overgrown, it needs to be treated.

Do I just use scissors to trim the granulation tissue? Does it hurt?

There are many ways to treat granulation tissue. In the early stage, you can use concentrated sodium chloride, concentrated magnesium sulfate and other liquids to directly wet the wound, which can effectively inhibit granulation edema and keep the wound in a normal repair state. If wet compress is not effective, you can also trim the granulation tissue. Many people worry whether it will be painful to trim the granulation tissue. In fact, because this kind of granulation tissue grows too fast and has fewer nerves inside, it generally does not cause pain. However, if the normal granulation tissue is touched when trimming the granulation tissue, it will cause pain. There will be no pain if you simply treat the weak granulation tissue. Patients should not be afraid. The purpose of treating granulation tissue is to make the wound heal faster.

Why do granulation tissues appear? How to avoid them?

There are several reasons for the appearance of granulation. The first reason is the size of the wound. The larger the wound, the more space needs to be filled with granulation tissue, and it is inevitable that the granulation tissue will grow too high and become edematous. The second reason is improper dressing changes. Some patients are too busy after surgery, so they do not clean properly or press the gauze strips tightly enough, which will cause the granulation tissue to grow "weak". The third reason is an unbalanced diet. In order to make the wound heal faster, many patients often eat too much meat and gelatinous foods. Some patients eat pig's trotters every day to heal their wounds. Although the wounds heal quickly, the granulation tissue also becomes "weak". It takes a certain amount of time for wounds to heal. It is impossible for a large wound to heal completely in one week. We must treat this issue scientifically and rationally.
