What is the cause of aortic valve degeneration

There is a certain relationship between aortic valve degeneration and aging, because aging can easily lead to degeneration of the connective tissue of the heart valve, causing the valve to thicken and harden, or calcium salt deposition, so both men and women should pay special attention to prevention.

1. It is common in ascending aortic aneurysms caused by syphilitic aortitis, Marfan syndrome, aortic medial necrosis, senile degenerative changes and other reasons. Due to severe incompetence of the aortic valve, the pulse pressure of the peripheral arteries was significantly widened. In terms of hemodynamics, the left ventricle had a severe volume load increase, so the left ventricle enlarged to the left, downward, and backward. Both left ventriculography and ultrasound examination showed that the left ventricular cavity was significantly enlarged and the aortic valve had severe regurgitation. The contrast agent flows back and forth in the left ventricle and ascending aorta, where it stays for a long time and cannot be emptied quickly.

2. Risk factors for aortic valve degeneration include age (the risk increases by 2 times every 10 years with age), gender (males with high incidence of aortic sclerosis or calcification are twice as likely to be at risk as females; females have a high incidence of mitral valve ring calcification), smoking (smoking increases the risk by 35%), and hypertension (those with a history of hypertension have a 20% increased risk). Other significant risk factors include overweight, high LP(a) and LDL levels, and diabetes.

3. Aortic valve degeneration refers to the degeneration and fibrosis of the connective tissue of the heart valve on the basis of a previously normal valve or mild valve abnormality with age, which causes the valve to thicken, harden, deform, and accumulate calcium salts, leading to valve stenosis and/or insufficiency.
