How to treat midge bites

How to treat midge bites

In some weedy areas, pests such as midges are prone to appear. Generally speaking, if we are bitten by midges, we are easily infected with parasites. Therefore, everyone should avoid going to wet places such as fields and grass. Generally, when you are bitten by midges, you can use some medicine to treat it, such as ammonia, cooling oil, etc. At the same time, it is recommended to take precautions against midges at home.

Bitten by a midge (also called a "bite"). Cause of the disease: Midges are most common in summer and autumn. They often fly in dense groups in woods, fields, grasslands, depressions and near houses during the day and at dusk. They usually fly less than one meter above the ground and have a small range of activity. April to May and September to October each year are the breeding seasons for midges. Male midges do not suck blood, only female midges suck the blood of humans, poultry and livestock. Some midges are addicted to sucking human blood.

Pathophysiology: It uses its beak to pierce the skin to suck blood. It is very greedy when biting and will not stop attacking even if disturbed, and will not fly away until it is full. Midges not only suck blood and damage the skin, but are also vectors of many infectious diseases. It is now known that they are the vectors of 18 human and animal parasites, and carry 22 viruses related to humans and animals.

Treatment plan: When local swelling and itching occur after being bitten, the area can be rinsed with 10% alkaline water or ammonia water or rubbed with cooling oil. After dermatitis occurs, apply 1% phenol or mint calamine lotion externally. If secondary infection occurs, antibiotics should be given as soon as possible or decoction of wild chrysanthemum or dandelion should be used for external washing. If nodules have formed, prednisolone or triamcinolone can be injected into the lesions once a week, and they can usually be cured after 2 to 3 injections. Antihistamines or corticosteroids are given for severe reactions.

Prognosis and prevention: Spray insecticides on midge breeding grounds and habitats. When working in the fields, wear long-sleeved clothes, shoes and socks, wear a mask, and wrap a towel around your neck to prevent midge bites. Apply mosquito repellent to your skin before working in the fields.

Drugs for midge bites: Ammonia, cooling oil, mint, calamine, prednisolone, triamcinolone, corticosteroids

The control of midges is similar to that of mosquitoes. Maintain good environmental hygiene and treat suspected breeding grounds with insecticide sprays. Prevent midge bites by applying midge repellent or wearing a midge net. When papules appear, apply mosquito repellent and cooling oil. It may be the smallest flying insect in the world visible to the naked eye. In the summer evenings, it often flies in groups, as charming as wind and sand. When it occasionally sticks to your skin, sweat can drown it out. The most suitable temperature for midges to reproduce is between 27℃ and 29℃. Midges are like mosquitoes. Male midges suck plant sap, while female midges suck blood. Midges can also spread diseases. Midge bites can cause local reactions or itching, and can even cause systemic allergic reactions.
