How should lung cancer patients be cared for after surgery? 4 postoperative care measures for lung cancer patients

The most common treatment for many patients with malignant tumors in clinical practice is surgery. However, for a disease like lung cancer, if surgery cannot be used, we need to use palliative treatment. However, experts now explain the care that lung cancer patients should receive after surgery.

1. Continuous ECG monitoring should be used to monitor vital signs and ECG changes. If any abnormality is found, the doctor should be notified and assistance should be provided.

2. Respiratory care

(1) Oxygen administration: Oxygen administration via conventional nasal cannula.

(2) Care of endotracheal intubation: including ① fixing the position of the endotracheal intubation to prevent it from slipping out or shifting. ② observing the respiratory movement, breath sounds of both lungs, and arterial oxygen saturation (required to be maintained above 95%). ③ suction sputum at any time, suction time & 15 seconds / time, and give sufficient oxygen before and after suction. ④ before extubation, suction all tracheal secretions, turn over and pat the back after extubation, and do oral care.

(3) Expectoration, suction, and lung expansion: ① Encourage and assist patients to cough and expectorate effectively, and the method of pressing the trachea above the sternal notch can be used. ② Conventional oxygen nebulization or ultrasonic nebulization inhalation, twice a day, for 1 week, to facilitate the discharge of sputum. ③ For patients who are unable to expectorate and have respiratory secretions, deep suction of sputum with a nasal catheter can be performed. If necessary, assist the doctor in suctioning sputum or performing tracheotomy under a fiberoptic bronchoscope. ④ Guide turning over, doing abdominal deep breathing exercises, blowing balloons, using deep breathing trainers, etc. to promote lung expansion.

What kind of care measures should be given to patients with lung cancer? Although our experts have given relevant care methods above, patients with lung cancer still need to take good care of their respiratory tract as the experts said, so that we can effectively take care of the patients. Moreover, the patients should cooperate with our treatment.
