Can liver cancer be cured? Can I get pregnant if I have advanced liver cancer?

Liver cancer is curable

Whether it is liver cancer patients or their families, the most concerned issue is whether liver cancer can be cured. Generally speaking, liver cancer can be cured, but to be precise, whether liver cancer can be cured depends on the situation.

In recent years, my country has made great progress in the treatment of liver cancer. Many liver cancer patients have achieved long-term survival after proper treatment. According to data, many patients have survived for more than 5 and 10 years after treatment. Some of these people have returned to work, and some have married and had children. It can be said that they have been cured. Therefore, liver cancer can be cured.

The key to improving the treatment effect of liver cancer is early detection and early treatment. If early liver cancer can be surgically removed, it is possible to completely remove the tumor before the liver cancer has metastasized to distant places, thus obtaining the opportunity for radical treatment. However, if it is discovered late, liver cancer has already developed cancer thrombi, or has formed metastatic lesions in the liver, or has metastasized to distant places outside the liver, and the best treatment opportunity has been missed, it will be difficult to obtain good treatment effects.

Of course, it does not mean that there is no need to worry after treatment. Even patients who receive radical treatment surgery are prone to recurrence of liver cancer. Therefore, regular follow-up examinations should be conducted after surgery. Early detection of recurrence can still provide effective treatment, such as re-surgical resection, local ablation therapy, etc., so that patients can survive for a long time.

Can I get pregnant if I have advanced liver cancer?

Can you get pregnant in the late stage of liver cancer? Theoretically, as long as the reproductive system of liver cancer patients is normal, it is still possible to have children. However, from the medical point of view and from the perspective of eugenics, a married liver cancer patient should be discouraged from getting pregnant and having children.

Although liver cancer is not a contagious disease, it has a significant genetic tendency and familial clustering. During pregnancy, the body consumes more energy, and changes in the endocrine system and immune system can easily lead to tumor development. Some patients with clinically cured liver cancer experience recurrence or metastasis after pregnancy.

If the patient becomes pregnant during treatment, chemotherapy or radiotherapy may also lead to miscarriage and fetal malformation. At the same time, during treatment, patients often have poor mental and physical conditions, poor appetite, and some experience digestive symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, which lead to malnutrition and inevitably affect the growth and development of the fetus. For patients who are diagnosed with liver cancer during pregnancy, immediate termination of pregnancy should be considered to focus on treatment.
