How much does it cost to treat advanced liver cancer?

Cancer is a worldwide problem. No treatment in the world today can completely cure cancer. All we can do is try to prolong the patient's life. Of course, liver cancer is no exception. However, we need to remind everyone that although liver cancer cannot be completely cured, long-term survival can still be achieved through reasonable and effective treatment. However, there is no clear answer in terms of cost. The factors that affect the cost of liver cancer treatment are mainly the following:

1. Due to different lesions and pathologies, there will be certain differences in treatment methods. With the development of medical technology, there are more and more ways to treat liver cancer. Due to the different treatment methods, this has a direct impact on the cost of treatment. However, generally speaking, when liver cancer is discovered, it is usually in the middle and late stages. Surgery is no longer the best treatment method. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy are the main Western medical treatment methods. Generally speaking, the cost of liver cancer treatment depends on the choice of radiotherapy and chemotherapy drugs and the different dosages.

2. The physical constitution of each patient is different. Therefore, the sensitivity to treatment is also different. The degree of treatment and subsequent care will be different. If the patient has a good physical constitution and is more sensitive to treatment, then relatively speaking, whether it is the choice of medicine, the length of treatment, or the subsequent hospitalization care, it will cost significantly less than other patients.

3. The severity of the patient's condition is different. I believe everyone should understand that if it can be treated actively in the early stage, the cost will be relatively less. Therefore, the cost of liver cancer treatment for patients with serious conditions will also be more or less different. The patient's condition is more serious, and the dosage and degree of treatment required are relatively much higher than other patients, so the overall treatment cost will be much lower.

What are the advantages of local resection of liver cancer?

The so-called local resection of liver cancer refers to a technique of resecting liver cancer based on the size and margin of the liver cancer instead of the traditional liver lobes and segments. The precaution is to maintain a certain margin around the liver cancer, thereby completely removing the liver cancer.

Traditional surgical treatment for early liver cancer generally uses liver lobectomy based on the regular anatomical structure of liver cancer. Liver decompensation and even liver failure often occur after the operation. Therefore, the surgical mortality rate is very high and the treatment effect is not good.

In addition, most liver cancer patients in my country suffer from hepatitis and cirrhosis. If regular liver lobectomy is used, many liver cancer patients, even those with small liver cancer, cannot tolerate surgical resection because regular liver lobectomy requires the removal of a large amount of liver, and the remaining liver cannot maintain normal function.

In response to the above situation, medical workers in my country have adopted an irregular liver resection method to treat liver cancer based on national conditions, that is, local resection of liver cancer. Its advantage is that only a small amount of liver is removed. Even if the patient has cirrhosis, the remaining liver after surgery can still maintain normal liver function.

This method has greatly improved the safety of surgical resection of liver cancer and significantly reduced the surgical mortality rate. Currently, the mortality rate of surgical resection of liver cancer mostly does not exceed 2%.
