Eating these foods after thyroid cancer surgery will help you recover better

For everyone, cancer is a desperate battle with death. Every second during the illness is painful. Especially after the operation, you must be more careful. Not only chemotherapy is required, but also diet. Thyroid cancer is a cancer with a relatively high cure rate, with a survival rate of 90% within 10 years. Thyroid cancer , like other cancers, requires chemotherapy after surgery. Thyroid cancer patients also need to pay attention to their diet. Let's take a look at what thyroid cancer patients need to pay attention to in their diet after surgery.

Thyroid cancer is the most common thyroid malignancy, accounting for about 1% of all malignant tumors in the body, including papillary carcinoma, follicular carcinoma, undifferentiated carcinoma and myeloid carcinoma. Except for medullary carcinoma, most papillary thyroid carcinomas originate from follicular epithelial cells, with low malignancy and good prognosis. The incidence rate is related to region, race and gender. The incidence rate of female patients is 1:(2~4). It can occur at any age, but it is more common in young and middle-aged people. Most thyroid cancers occur in one lobe of the thyroid gland, usually as a single tumor.

Iodine and thyroid cancer

Iodine is an essential trace element for the human body. Iodine deficiency leads to decreased thyroid hormone synthesis, increased thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) levels, and stimulates thyroid follicle proliferation and hypertrophy, leading to thyroid enlargement, thyroid hormone secretion, and increased incidence of thyroid cancer. Currently, opinions vary. A high-iodine diet may increase the incidence of papillary thyroid cancer.

Radiation and thyroid cancer

X-ray irradiation of the thyroid gland of experimental mice can induce thyroid cancer in animals, with nuclear deformation, greatly reducing the synthesis of thyroxine, and leading to cancer. On the other hand, the thyroid gland can be destroyed without producing endocrine hormones, and the resulting large amount of TSH secretion will also promote thyroid cell cancer.

Chronic TSH and Thyroid Cancer

Increased serum TSH levels, induction of nodular goiter, mutagens and TSH stimulation can induce thyroid follicular cell carcinoma, and clinical studies have shown that TSH suppression therapy plays an important role in the treatment of differentiated thyroid cancer during surgery, but if TSH stimulation is the cause of thyroid cancer remains to be proven.

The role of sex hormones in thyroid cancer

Because there are more females than males in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer, some studies on the relationship between sex hormones and thyroid cancer have examined sex hormone receptors in thyroid cancer tissues and found that sex hormone receptors exist in thyroid tissues: estrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptor (PR), and thyroid cancer tissues, but the effects of sex hormones on thyroid cancer have not yet been determined.

Goiter formation and thyroid cancer

The raw materials that interfere with the normal synthesis of thyroid hormones and the production of substances by the thyroid gland and become goiter include cassava, radish, cabbage, thiouracil, sodium thiocyanate, amino acids, phenylbutazone, potassium chlorate, cobalt, lithium salts and other foods and drugs, as well as hydrocarbons, calcium sulfur and excessive fluoride in drinking water.

Other thyroid diseases and thyroid cancer

Thyroid cancer is less common among patients with benign thyroid diseases such as nodular goiter, hyperthyroidism, and hyperthyroidism. Thyroid adenomas may also become cancerous.

Family factors and thyroid cancer

About 5% to 10% of patients with medullary thyroid cancer have a clear family history, showing autosomal dominant inheritance. Clinically, more than two members of a family have papillary carcinoma.

What should patients with thyroid cancer pay attention to in their diet after surgery?

1. The first three days after the resection surgery should be mainly liquid food, because thyroid cancer patients will have difficulty swallowing after the operation. Family members can prepare some easy-to-digest and easy-to-swallow food for the patients, such as porridge, rice paste, etc. Of course, be careful not to add too much salt.

2. The diet after surgery should be light. A light diet is not easy to irritate the patient's stomach and intestines. Thyroid patients need a light diet after surgery, which will help the patient's digestion.

3. Thyroid patients should eat more foods high in iodine, such as kelp, scallops, seaweed, hair algae, fish maw, jellyfish, cockles, mussels, razor clams, sea cucumbers, lobster, hairtail, mackerel, clams, and turtles.

4. After the operation, patients should eat more foods that have the effect of dissolving lumps and swelling, such as mustard greens, water chestnuts, rapeseed, taro, and kiwi fruit.

5. After surgery, patients should eat more foods that have certain anti-cancer effects, such as cabbage, cauliflower, sea cucumber, broccoli, beans, asparagus, mushrooms, shark, etc.

6. Patients should eat more foods that enhance immunity, such as coix seed, shiitake mushrooms, fungus, mushrooms, red dates, walnuts, and yam.

7. Patients should eat more foods that have the effect of strengthening the spleen and promoting diuresis, such as black soybeans, walnuts, lychees, yam, herring, leeks, mulberries, mussels, shrimps, sparrow meat, pig and sheep kidneys, quail eggs, plums, pomegranates, coix seeds, yam, lentils, and konjac.
