Can bile duct cancer be inherited?

Is bile duct cancer hereditary? Hereditary diseases often make men and women of childbearing age very distressed and worried, fearing that it will affect the health of the next generation. Biliary duct cancer is a highly malignant tumor, so many patients want to know whether the disease is hereditary. Let's take a look at whether bile duct cancer is hereditary.

The cause of bile duct cancer is still unclear, but factors that may be related to its onset include: ulcerative colitis, gallstones, infection with Clonorchis sinensis, common bile duct cysts, etc. These factors can increase the risk of bile duct cancer. Therefore, this disease is generally not hereditary.

Data show that about 1/3 of patients with cholangiocarcinoma have concurrent bile duct stones, and 5% to 10% of patients with bile duct stones will develop cholangiocarcinoma. It is generally believed that the long-term mechanical stimulation of the bile duct wall by hepatobiliary stones, as well as the chronic bile duct infection and bile stasis caused by these factors, lead to chronic proliferative inflammation of the bile duct wall, which in turn causes atypical hyperplasia of the bile duct mucosal epithelium. Pathological observations have found that atypical hyperplasia of the bile duct mucosal epithelium can gradually transition into adenocarcinoma.

In addition to gallstones, the most concerning thing is the infection with Clonorchis sinensis. In Southeast Asia, people infected with liver flukes due to eating raw fish suffer from bile duct infection, bile stasis, peribiliary fibrosis and bile duct hyperplasia, resulting in a high incidence of bile duct cancer. In areas where people are used to eating foods rich in nitrite, the possibility of inducing cancer is even greater.

Many patients choose surgery for treatment, but bile duct cancer patients are likely to have a series of complications after surgery, so the patient's diet after surgery is very important. Please pay attention to prevention. Try not to drink any alcohol, especially strong alcohol, and do not drink alcoholic beverages for a long time. Do not use hormones, especially sex hormones.
