Is it possible to cure small cell lung cancer

Is it possible to cure small cell lung cancer? Although everyone knows about cancer, many people may not know about small cell lung cancer. Once it is diagnosed, it is basically in the late stage and cannot be cured. Do you feel panic after hearing this? Today, let's find out together, is it possible to cure small cell lung cancer?

It can be relieved, but there is basically no possibility of cure at present. Small cell lung cancer is highly malignant and easy to metastasize. At the current stage of medical level, it is still difficult to cure. However, as long as the patient treats the disease correctly and actively treats it, the quality of life can be improved and the survival period can be prolonged through chemotherapy and tumor biological immunotherapy.

Small cell lung cancer is significantly different from non-small cell lung cancer in terms of tissue origin, biological characteristics, response to treatment and prognosis. First, in terms of pathological histology, small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is derived from the malignant transformation of Kulchistky cells in the basal layer of the bronchial mucosa, and the tumor cells have a more obvious neuroendocrine differentiation tendency. Therefore, the incidence of tumor-associated syndrome is higher in clinical practice; secondly, the clinical course of small cell lung cancer and the natural course of the disease are significantly faster than non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Many patients have distant metastases in the early stages of the disease. According to literature reports: when small cell lung cancer is diagnosed, the patient already has lymph node metastasis and/or distant metastasis, the most common of which is mediastinal lymph node metastasis, followed by liver, bone, brain, etc. Therefore, small cell lung cancer is currently considered to be a systemic disease.

Most patients develop symptoms and disease progression quickly and die from tumor progression in a short period of time. The average median survival of untreated patients is 12 to 15 weeks, and the average median survival of advanced patients is 6 to 9 weeks. Finally, small cell lung cancer (SCLC) tumor cells are less differentiated and have a shorter doubling time, so they are very sensitive to chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
