What are the misunderstandings about medication for glioma patients

We all know that we can use drugs to treat illnesses, and the same is true for gliomas. People with gliomas can also take medicines. However, some patients do not follow the doctor's advice and take medicines blindly, which leads to misunderstandings about medication. So, what are the misunderstandings about medications for glioma patients?

1. Break the tablet and take it

Some patients have difficulty taking medication. In this case, they can break the medicine or break the tablets to take them under the guidance of a doctor, but sustained-release tablets and other dosage forms must be taken as a whole tablet. This is because the structure of sustained-release tablets can ensure that the drug dissolves slowly and is released gradually. If it is damaged, the drug will be released quickly and the absorbed dose will be greatly increased. For example, long-acting antihypertensive drugs containing ingredients such as diltiazem hydrochloride or isosorbide dinitrate may cause a sudden drop in blood pressure or even fainting if they are broken and taken. Therefore, if patients have difficulty taking sustained-release tablets, it is recommended to contact a doctor to change the dosage form.

2. Applying the ointment too thickly

Ointments containing analgesic ingredients and hormone ingredients should not be applied too thickly, and should be avoided in combination with other drugs containing the same ingredients to avoid overdose. Overdose may cause the drug to penetrate too deeply, leading to an increased risk of side effects. When taking the medicine, the patient can apply the ointment to the affected area with one finger, gradually spreading it and applying it evenly. If the ointment can still be seen on the surface after application, it means that the drug is overdosed.

3. Take medicine with milk

Some people mistakenly believe that milk can be used to take medicines. However, they do not know that if drugs such as oxytetracycline and tetracycline are taken with milk or dairy products, they can combine with the calcium ions in the dairy products and affect the body's absorption of the drugs.
