A brief discussion on the hazards of glioma

Glioma can be divided into two types, one that occurs in interstitial cells and the other that occurs in parenchymal cells. Glioma that occurs in interstitial cells is more common than glioma that occurs in parenchymal cells. So what are the dangers of glioma? Let's talk about the dangers of glioma.

1. Mental disorder: It can be caused by progressive increase in intracranial pressure, or it can be the result of compression and destruction of the brain substance by tumors. In the early stage, the symptoms are generally mild, manifested as apathy, dullness, memory and comprehension impairment, etc. As intracranial pressure continues to increase, mental symptoms become more obvious, such as dementia, confusion, personality and behavior changes, etc.

2. Inducing epilepsy: The incidence rate accounts for about 30% of brain tumors, and the cause is mostly due to direct stimulation or compression of the tumor. The seizure type is often localized, but it can also be a major seizure. The seizure is related to the location and nature of the tumor. For example, tumors in the motor area and its vicinity have a higher incidence of epilepsy. The incidence rate is higher in gliomas, astrocytomas, and oligodendrogliomas.

3. Lead to blindness: Not many people go blind suddenly due to brain tumors. Often, vision loss occurs first. If it is not treated promptly and effectively, it will gradually develop into blindness. Some children, and even a few adult patients, ignore the vision loss on one side, and the doctor finds that one eye is already blind during the examination. Some patients, especially the elderly, have eye diseases with brain tumors. When vision changes, they mistakenly think it is an eye disease, delay treatment, and develop into blindness.
