How many hours is urine from a routine urinalysis valid?

Urinalysis is the most common test. Urinalysis may seem simple, but it can detect many diseases. Usually, the first urine in the morning is the best for urinalysis. However, it is best to send it for testing within an hour. If it exceeds an hour, contamination may occur, and the test results may also be affected. When urinating, be sure to keep midstream urine.

What can a urine test reveal?

1. The situation of red blood cells can be seen through routine urine examination. There are no red blood cells in normal people's urine or they are very rare. However, if more than the specified amount of red blood cells are found in the urine, it means that there are still certain lesions, such as inflammation of the urinary system, stones, tumors, nephritis, etc.

2. A routine urine test can also reveal the presence of white blood cells. If a large number of white blood cells are detected in a routine urine test, it indicates that some corresponding symptoms have occurred, such as urinary tract infection, stones, tuberculosis and other diseases. If the patient usually has symptoms such as urgency and frequency of urination, then it can be diagnosed as a urinary tract infection.

3. Urinalysis can also show the situation of urine protein. If the urine protein situation is abnormal, it indicates a manifestation of nephrotic syndrome. Based on the above examination results, determine whether the patient has some underlying medical conditions, and follow the doctor's advice or do some other examinations to determine the health condition of the body.

Note: Note for urine routine examination: The urine volume should not be too little during urine routine examination, at least not less than ten milliliters. Women are not suitable for examination during menstruation because it will affect the test results. When extracting urine, be sure to use the test tube or container provided by the hospital, and send the urine for examination in time after collection.

Urinalysis test items

A routine urine examination includes many items, mainly looking at the color of urine, observing transparency, testing acidity and alkalinity, white blood cells, casts, red blood cells, epithelial cells, protein, specific gravity and qualitative urine sugar.

1. Observe the color of urine: Observe the collected urine to see if there is any abnormality in color. Under normal circumstances, urine is yellow. If there is an abnormality, there may be different changes, such as being too white or having hematuria.

2. Observe the transparency of urine: Observing the transparency of urine is also to determine the freshness of urine. Clear and transparent urine is generally a freshly made sample and can be used. Urine that has been left for too long will lose some of its properties and become turbid. Such urine generally cannot be used as a urine sample for examination.

3. Acidity and alkalinity test: Normal urine is weakly acidic. If the urine is weakly alkaline, provided that the urine sample is valid, there is no dietary interference, and no alkaline medication is taken, it may be a disease such as proteinuria, and further examination is required.

4. Cell examination: If a large number of red blood cells and white blood cells are detected in the urine, it indicates that there may be an infection in the urinary system or reproductive system. Under normal circumstances, there are only a few white blood cells and red blood cells in the urine. Too many are definitely abnormal.

5. Cast examination: Cast examination is an important examination to rule out lesions. There are almost no casts in the urine of normal people. Proteins accumulate in the glomeruli to form casts. If casts appear in the urine test, it is further evidence of kidney lesions.

6. Protein test: After normal protein is filtered by the glomerulus, only a small amount will appear in the urine, so the test result will generally be negative. However, if there is a problem with the kidneys, the glomerular filtration function will be disturbed and proteinuria will be produced, and the test result will be positive.

7. Specific gravity test: Specific gravity test is used to rule out some reproductive system diseases. Although this test cannot determine the exact condition of the disease, it is still very important.

8. Qualitative test for urine sugar: In a normal urine test, the glucose content will also be tested as negative, but if it is positive, it will be characterized as urine sugar, which is a precursor to high blood sugar in the body and some kidney diseases.
