Symptoms of advanced nasopharyngeal cancer

Symptoms of advanced nasopharyngeal cancer

Nasopharyngeal cancer is a malignant tumor originating from the epithelial tissue of the laryngeal mucosa, with laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma being the most common. It is more common in middle-aged and elderly men, especially those who are addicted to smoking. The occurrence of this disease is related to factors such as long-term smoking, alcoholism, inhalation of harmful substances and papillomavirus infection. The incidence of laryngeal cancer accounts for about 1% to 5% of all tumors in the body, and ranks third among otolaryngology tumors, second only to nasopharyngeal cancer and nasal and sinus cancers.

The type of nasopharyngeal cancer is different, and the early or late onset of late-stage nasopharyngeal cancer symptoms and the severity of the disease are also different. So what symptoms will patients with late-stage laryngeal cancer experience?

1. Hoarseness: It is the earliest symptom of laryngeal cancer, which is usually persistent and gradually worsens. The early symptoms of subglottic cancer are not obvious, while hoarseness is a symptom of the later stage.

2. Foreign body sensation and pain in the throat: This is often an early symptom of supraglottic cancer. After the cancer ruptures, throat pain may occur, sometimes radiating to the ear on the same side. This is a symptom that occurs in the later stages.

3. Coughing and blood in sputum: occurs after laryngeal cancer ruptures and is a common symptom of late-stage laryngeal cancer.

4. Difficulty breathing: It is a common symptom of late-stage laryngeal cancer, caused by the tumor blocking the laryngeal cavity.

5. Cervical lymph node metastasis: Laryngeal cancer may metastasize to the deep middle cervical lymph nodes on the same side in the middle stage, and may metastasize to the contralateral lymph nodes in the late stage.

To sum up, the above are the common symptoms of laryngeal cancer in patients in the late stage. Laryngeal cancer is a fatal malignant tumor. Treatment should be started early to avoid developing to the late stage and causing greater harm to the patient.
