Can breast cancer patients exercise after surgery?

Can breast cancer patients exercise after surgery? Rehabilitation training is very important for breast cancer patients, but post-care for breast cancer is very important. What aspects of life should be taken seriously? What exercises are better for breast cancer patients to do for rehabilitation training?

1. Within 1 to 5 days after the operation, the affected upper arm is fixed with a chest strap. During this period, only the fingers, palm, wrist and elbow joints are moved, such as clenching fists, extending hands, flexing and rotating wrists and elbows, to promote smooth blood circulation.

2. On the 6th day after surgery, untie the chest strap, release the affected upper arm, and continue to wrap the chest with the chest strap. Place the upper arm in front of the chest and do adduction and internal rotation exercises to avoid abduction.

3. 7 to 10 days after surgery, the affected arm is often placed on the abdomen, in an adducted and internally rotated position. With the help of medical staff or your own healthy hand, support the elbow joint of the affected arm, and place the affected hand on the opposite shoulder or touch the opposite ear. At this time, the range of motion of the shoulder joint is about 60 to 90 degrees.

4. 14 days after the operation, the patient can support the affected elbow with the healthy hand, place the affected hand behind the neck, and slowly move it toward the healthy side until it touches the healthy ear, and raise the head and chest at the appropriate time. At this time, the shoulder joint has a range of motion of about 160 degrees.

5. 3-4 weeks after surgery, start to increase the range of motion of the shoulder joint and do exercises to raise the affected upper limb. Mark the progress scale on the wall and practice walking up the wall. Keep a record after each activity and compare it with the previous day.

6. The above exercises can be performed until the functional range of motion is close to that of the healthy side, then the activity time and frequency can be reduced. Even after the function of the affected side is basically restored, appropriate arm function exercises should still be carried out every day.
