Are there any cases of gallbladder cancer being cured?

Gallbladder cancer can cause serious harm to the patient's body. Many patients want to know whether they can be cured before receiving treatment. So what is the cure rate of gallbladder cancer? What are the treatment measures?

What is the cure rate for gallbladder cancer?

In recent years, gallbladder cancer has gradually received attention from experts and patients. Clinical data show that the prognosis of gallbladder cancer is poor, with an overall 5-year survival rate of less than 5%. This is mainly related to the high malignancy of the tumor, early metastasis and spread, and low early diagnosis rate and surgical resection rate. As mentioned earlier, the effect of tumor treatment is closely related to the staging of gallbladder cancer. Patients with stage I and II gallbladder cancer who are accidentally discovered after cholecystectomy for benign gallbladder disease can often survive for a long time. It is reported that the 5-year survival rate can reach 64% to 86%. On the contrary, the prognosis of cases above stage III is very poor. If the tumor has invaded the entire layer of the gallbladder, almost all patients will die within 2.5 years after surgery.

What treatments are available?

1. Surgical treatment: The main treatment for gallbladder cancer patients is surgical treatment. However, most patients find that their tumors cannot be removed or can only be palliatively removed during surgery. There are generally three types of surgical methods.

1. Gallbladder cancer has spread to the bile duct and has multiple liver metastases. Radical surgery is no longer possible. Such patients can undergo some palliative surgeries to relieve symptoms and improve the quality of life. If there is obstructive jaundice, bile duct drainage is required to relieve jaundice and skin itching. If pyloric obstruction occurs, gastrojejunostomy is performed.

2. After a cholecystectomy for gallstones or acute cholecystitis, gallbladder cancer was unexpectedly found in the pathological section, and the lesion was limited to the serosal layer below the gallbladder wall. Most scholars believe that cholecystectomy is sufficient for such patients and there is no need for extended radical surgery. They also believe that even if surgery is performed to expand the scope of radical surgery, it may not necessarily change the survival rate and prognosis.

2. Radiotherapy: Gallbladder cancer has atypical early symptoms, and the radical resection rate is low. The recurrence rate after extended radical resection is high and is the main cause of death. Therefore, surgery combined with radiotherapy is advocated. Gallbladder cancer is sensitive to radiotherapy. Surgery plus radiotherapy can prolong life and improve quality of life.

Through the above introduction, everyone knows that the cure rate of gallbladder cancer is low, but patients cannot give up treatment. It is possible to be cured if they learn more about treatment knowledge and cooperate with the treatment.
