Complete guide to nursing before, during and after chemotherapy for liver cancer

In recent years, more and more people have been diagnosed with liver cancer due to various reasons. Once diagnosed with liver cancer, timely treatment should be given. However, care is also very important during treatment. Only effective treatment plus proper care can make patients recover faster. Here we introduce the complete care before, during and after chemotherapy for liver cancer.

Pre-chemotherapy care

1. Provide good psychological care: Provide health education before chemotherapy, explain the various side effects that may occur during chemotherapy and the effects that can be achieved, so that patients can face the treatment and build confidence.

2. Make all preparations before chemotherapy according to the doctor's instructions, such as liver and kidney function tests, blood clotting time tests, etc.

3. According to different routes of administration, special care should be provided. For example, for hepatic artery perfusion, skin preparation and iodine test should be performed.

4. Before chemotherapy, patients should strengthen their nutrition, eat more high-protein, high-calorie, and high-vitamin foods, and receive supportive treatment as prescribed by the doctor if necessary.

Nursing during chemotherapy

Nursing during chemotherapy mainly focuses on the key points of nursing for chemotherapy medication:

1. Understand the condition, chemotherapy regimen, medication method, drug dosage and possible side effects, etc.

2. Medicines should be prepared and used immediately.

3. When administering drugs intravenously, the vein should be selected in a planned manner, and puncture should be started from the distal end of the vein. First, flush with saline to make sure the needle is in the vein. Drug administration should be slow to reduce the occurrence of side effects.

4. Strictly implement aseptic operation techniques, change the injection site frequently, and prevent thrombophlebitis.

5. After the injection, rinse with saline to reduce stimulation to the blood vessels.

6. After intrahepatic arterial perfusion, the wound should be bandaged with pressure, and the patient should stay in bed for 24 hours, with the limb on the side of the operation straightened and kept still to prevent bleeding.

Post-chemotherapy care

1. Closely observe the reactions to medication and assist doctors in dealing with the toxic reactions of various chemotherapy drugs.

2. Encourage eating: Liver cancer patients often suffer from nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite due to the effects of chemotherapy drugs. Guide patients to eat high-protein, high-calorie, high-vitamin liquid or semi-liquid diets in a planned manner, and eat small meals frequently to reduce irritation to the stomach.

3. After chemotherapy, it is recommended to use Selenium Weikang preparations to comprehensively supplement malt selenium and vitamin E. Malt selenium is an exogenous differentiation inducer that can improve sleep, enhance appetite, improve the patient's immunity, and delay the metastasis of cancer cells. It can also resist the side effects of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and reduce the pain, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite and other symptoms caused by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Vitamin E can effectively promote the absorption of selenium and prevent excessive selenium supplementation, which has a positive impact on the patient's quality of life in the later stage!

4. Monitor blood counts regularly. Actively prevent infection and take protective isolation measures for patients with severe leukopenia and bone marrow suppression.

5. Treatment of drug leakage: Use different side effects according to different drugs. For doxorubicin and vincristine, use dexamethasone 5 mg or sodium carbonate 5 ml. Raise the affected limb and apply cold compress locally for 24 hours. If local ulceration occurs, surgical dressing should be performed.

6. If any systemic adverse reactions occur, please contact your doctor and seek symptomatic treatment.

7. Patients with hair loss should pay attention to keeping their beds clean, not making fun of the patients, and advising them to wear wigs.
