What to do if rectal cancer recurs after tumor resection

Rectal cancer is a serious cancer and a highly common malignant tumor that causes death in cancer patients. Cancer can be treated through surgery, however, it is difficult to preserve the anus during rectal cancer surgery. Even if it is preserved, the function of the anus is still a problem in rectal cancer surgery. So what should be done if rectal cancer recurs after tumor resection? Let’s take a closer look below.

If you want to reduce the recurrence of rectal cancer, then it is recommended to do rectal cancer surgery plus radiotherapy. We know that radiotherapy (also known as radiotherapy) plays an important role in the treatment of rectal cancer. And it is believed that localized rectal cancer is defined as mid-to-late stage, and the effect of surgery is better after preoperative synchronous radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

If the local recurrence of rectal cancer after surgery is found to be relatively limited in scope, and the patient has no recurrence in other parts of the body and no other metastases, these patients can undergo surgery to explore and try to remove the lesions.

Recurrence of rectal cancer after surgery is a problem that needs to be taken seriously. For some patients with rectal cancer who have recurred and have no chance of surgical resection, it is recommended to use systemic chemotherapy to treat them. If there is pain caused by the metastasis of rectal cancer, radiotherapy is required, and of course painkillers can be injected.

Recurrence of rectal cancer after surgery requires active treatment, but prevention is very important. It is generally believed that patients with rectal cancer after surgery can take active exercise. And exercising more than 3 times a week can prevent the recurrence of rectal cancer.
