HPV positive only means that the risk of cervical cancer is relatively high

The main cause of cervical cancer is a type of virus called HPV, which 80% of women are likely to be infected with in their lifetime. In most cases, HPV can be automatically cleared by the human immune system without causing any problems.

Clinically, many women equate HPV with cervical cancer when they test positive, and they panic. In fact, this is not the case.

HPV positive only means that the risk of cervical cancer is relatively high, so there is no need to panic. You need to do a typing test at this time. If it is a low-risk type, you can ignore it for the time being and just do regular screening; if it is a high-risk type, it is recommended to do a biopsy first. If the biopsy is positive, you need to undergo surgery immediately. If the biopsy is negative, you only need to do a scan screening once a year to check the condition of the cervix.

Unlike other cancers, cervical cancer is more likely to occur in young women. The incidence of cervical cancer in Chinese women shows two peaks: the first peak occurs between 20 and 24 years old; the second peak is around 40 years old. The domestic cervical cancer screening guidelines have clearly stated that women over 21 years old who have sexual intercourse should undergo this screening. Generally speaking, if there are no special clinical symptoms, women over 65 years old do not need to undergo screening.

For women with normal menstruation, the best time to check is 10 to 15 days after the onset of menstruation. Please note that you should not do vaginal douching, use vaginal medication, or have sex within 48 hours before the check.

There are often no special symptoms in the early stages of cervical cancer, and many hidden cervical cancers cannot be detected by smear tests. Once there is an increase in secretions, the cervical smear test is negative, but various treatments are ineffective, it is recommended to do a B-ultrasound and hysteroscopy, which can often reveal the problem.
