Radiotherapy is a common treatment for bone metastasis

Radiotherapy is a common treatment for bone metastasis

In the late stage of malignant tumors, it is difficult to avoid multiple metastases in various parts of the body, and bones are the most common site of metastasis. Especially for patients with breast cancer, lung cancer, and prostate cancer, about 70% to 80% of patients will have bone metastasis, causing bone cancer, and will also be accompanied by severe bone pain. How should bone cancer caused by malignant tumor metastasis be treated? Radiotherapy is the preferred treatment method.

External irradiation (radiotherapy) is usually used clinically. For malignant tumor bone metastasis, if the radionuclide bone scan indicates that there is radioactivity concentration in multiple bone metastases throughout the body, then the use of radionuclides can be considered for treatment. Radionuclides can not only screen and diagnose, but also play a role in treatment. The pain caused by malignant tumor bone metastasis is the main symptom that affects the patient's quality of life. Treating bone metastasis cancer with radionuclide internal irradiation therapy can relieve pain and reduce symptoms, thereby improving the patient's quality of life and even prolonging life.

However, if the patient has multiple bone metastases, this method will be greatly limited. For patients with extensive bone metastases, if bone imaging shows radioactive concentrations in the lesions, internal irradiation with radionuclides can also be used. Patients need to realize that as long as they have confidence and receive reasonable treatment, the pain caused by bone metastases will be better controlled.
