Symptoms of bladder cancer in middle-aged and elderly people

The majority of bladder cancer patients are elderly people. The main symptoms are hematuria. Patients may also experience frequent urination, urgency, and pain when urinating.

1. Hematuria, especially intermittent painless macroscopic hematuria, is the most common symptom of bladder tumors. Most patients have hematuria when they seek medical treatment, and a small number of patients have severe hematuria. Since hematuria often occurs intermittently and worsens, it is easy for patients to have the illusion of "cured", which delays treatment.

2. Bladder irritation symptoms. Frequent urination, urgency, and pain during urination often indicate invasive bladder cancer or primary bladder cancer. The tumor is highly malignant and widely infiltrates the bladder wall. In primary bladder cancer, bladder irritation symptoms are accompanied by suprapubic or penile pain, and the pain worsens after urination.

3. Abnormal urination. A small number of patients may experience urination difficulties and discharge abnormal contents. Highly malignant tumors may quickly spread to the prostate and cause urination difficulties or even urinary retention. Benign prostatic hyperplasia may also cause urination difficulties, so be vigilant.

4. Metastatic symptoms. Patients with advanced bladder cancer may experience pubic mass, anemia, weight loss, edema, nausea and vomiting. If the disease metastasizes to the lymph nodes and invades most of the pelvic lymph nodes, pain, radiating pain in the lower limbs, and lower limb reflux disorders may occur. When the disease metastasizes to the bones, bone pain may occur in the corresponding parts. Common distant metastatic sites are the liver, lungs, and bones.
