Prostate cancer patients can eat more foods rich in lycopene

Lycopene is a natural pigment contained in plants, mainly found in the ripe fruits of tomatoes, a plant of the Solanaceae family. It is one of the strongest antioxidants found in plants in nature. Studies have shown that regular consumption of foods rich in lycopene can reduce the incidence of prostate cancer by 32%.

The anti-tumor effect of lycopene has been confirmed. The reasons may be the following two: first, it has antioxidant effects; second, lycopene can block the gene mutation process of tissue cells under the influence of external mutagens, which is one of the important mechanisms of tumor formation.

A Harvard University study of 50,000 people confirmed that people who regularly consumed tomato products had a 45% lower risk of developing prostate cancer. Another American study used capsules made from lycopene to treat prostate cancer patients and achieved significant therapeutic effects. The tumors were significantly reduced, and some tumors even disappeared.

Therefore, patients with prostate cancer can often eat foods rich in lycopene. Studies have found that lycopene is mainly distributed in fruits such as momordica, tomato, watermelon, peach, plum, mango, guava, and vegetables such as radish, carrot, turnip, and cabbage. Patients can choose to take it according to their own dietary preferences after consulting a doctor.
