What should patients with gastric cancer pay attention to during gastrointestinal decompression

Gastrointestinal decompression care is an important nursing content before and after gastrectomy. The purpose of preoperative gastrointestinal decompression is to reduce gastrointestinal bloating and increase surgical safety; the purpose of postoperative gastrointestinal decompression is to relieve abdominal distension, reduce suture tension and incision pain, so as to facilitate the healing of the incision and the recovery of digestive function.

There are many things that gastric cancer patients need to pay attention to during gastrointestinal decompression, as follows:

1. Pay attention to your feelings

After the gastric tube is inserted, the patient should always pay attention to his or her physical sensations. If there is any discomfort, the patient should inform the doctor so that adjustments can be made. At the same time, the stimulation to the pharynx should be reduced to prevent the gastric tube from coming out, being compressed or folded.

Pay attention to the recovery of your gastrointestinal function, such as whether there is abdominal bloating and flatulence. Patients can engage in appropriate activities to promote the recovery of gastrointestinal function.

2. Pay attention to oral care

You should keep your mouth clean and closely cooperate with the oral care provided by nursing staff. At the same time, you should pay attention to whether your oral mucosa has ulcers, damage, infection, and throat discomfort.

When your mouth is dry, you can cover your lips with something and apply lip balm with the help of others. At the same time, reduce mouth breathing, clean your nasal cavity regularly, and cooperate with the nursing staff to fix the gastric tube with adhesive tape.

3. Learn the correct way to cough up phlegm

Patients should learn the correct method of coughing up sputum. If the sputum is difficult to cough up, it should be nebulized to dilute the sputum to facilitate coughing up and keep the respiratory tract moist.

4. Pay attention to your diet

During gastrointestinal decompression, people should strictly avoid eating and drinking. If oral tablets are needed, they should be crushed and injected into the gastric tube, and then the tube should be flushed with warm water and clamped for 30 minutes.
