What are the contraindications for chemotherapy for gastric cancer

Chemotherapy is one of the commonly used methods for treating gastric cancer, but not all patients are suitable for chemotherapy. The contraindications of chemotherapy should be strictly mastered. For patients who are not suitable for chemotherapy, other treatment methods should be chosen to avoid damage to the body.

Contraindications to chemotherapy are as follows:

1. Those with total white blood cell count less than 4.0×109/L or platelet count less than 80×109/L or severe anemia that has not been corrected.

2. Patients with general exhaustion (KPS score <50 points), or those with exhaustion, high fever, or severe cachexia.

3. Those with abnormal liver and kidney function.

4. Patients with heart disease or heart dysfunction should not use anthracycline anticancer drugs.

5. Patients with severe infection.

6. Those who suffer from mental illness and cannot cooperate with treatment.

7. Patients with a tendency to esophageal and gastrointestinal perforation.

8. Pregnant women can have artificial abortion or induced labor first.

9. Patients with allergies should use this product with caution, and those who are allergic to any anticancer drugs should avoid using it.

If any abnormal situation occurs during chemotherapy, the treatment plan should be adjusted or chemotherapy should be discontinued at any time. The indications for discontinuation of chemotherapy are as follows:

1. When the white blood cell count is lower than 3.0×109/L or the platelet count is lower than 80×109/L, the medication should be discontinued for observation.

2. Patients with severe liver, kidney or myocardial damage.

3. Those with infection and fever, with body temperature above 38°C.

4. Complications occur, such as gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation, and pulmonary hemoptysis.

5. If the tumor lesions worsen after two cycles of medication, this regimen can be discontinued and replaced with other regimens.
