Still need to be wary of liver metastasis after pancreatic cancer surgery

Aunt Li Ye worked in a bank before she retired. She had no worries about food and clothing after retirement. She thought it was time for her to enjoy her retirement, but unexpectedly she was struck by a serious illness and was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Aunt Li, who retired in 2010, started to like singing revolutionary songs in the park near her home. Being with a group of like-minded elderly people made her feel energetic every day.

Sometimes when she sang to the climax, Aunt Li always felt powerless and even had upper abdominal pain. Later, she felt weak all over and had no appetite. After the doctor diagnosed it as pancreatic cancer, she underwent surgery and did not receive any follow-up treatment after the surgery. She went home to recuperate. As a result, she lost a lot of weight, had no appetite, felt weak all over, had a swollen abdomen, and felt nauseous and vomited after eating, so Aunt Li went to the hospital for treatment again.

After CT scan, the results showed changes after pancreatic cancer resection; high-risk bile duct obstruction; liver metastasis. The main symptoms were: weight loss of 20 pounds, weakness in the limbs, poor appetite, spontaneous sweating during sleep, abdominal distension, constipation 2-3 times/day, yellow face, and dullness.

After discussion by the expert group, surgery was no longer meaningful, so conservative treatment was carried out, mainly using traditional Chinese medicine to relieve the patient's pain and improve the patient's quality of life.

Because of distant metastasis, Aunt Li's condition could not be effectively controlled and she passed away a few months later.

Aunt Li’s tragedy tells us that we should not be careless or complacent after pancreatic cancer surgery, and follow-up treatment is very important.
