Things to note after prostate biopsy

Things to note after prostate biopsy

When prostate cancer is suspected, a prostate puncture biopsy is often required. During prostate puncture, some complications may occur, causing certain harm to the body, such as bleeding, infection, etc., and care should be taken.

1. Try to get out of bed as little as possible on the day after puncture. It is generally recommended to rest in bed for 24 hours. Strenuous waist activities are strictly prohibited within 3 weeks after puncture.

2. Blood pressure, pulse, urine color, skin color, waist and abdominal symptoms and signs should be routinely monitored within 6 hours after puncture.

3. The most common complication after prostate puncture is bleeding. Hemostatic drugs can be given routinely. Prophylactic use of antibiotics may reduce the occurrence of infection. Fever, chills, urinary tract infection, etc. can generally be treated symptomatically.

4. If significant rectal bleeding is found after the puncture, a vaginal tampon of appropriate size can be lubricated and inserted into the rectum and left for a few hours.

5. If blood clots appear after puncture, and dizziness, pale face, cold sweats, or persistent high fever and perineal pain occur, it may be that the urethra is severely damaged and you need to seek medical attention promptly.

Tips: Normal hematuria after puncture

Hematuria may occur after prostate puncture. Generally speaking, it is normal to have some hematuria in the first part of urine each time you urinate, especially the first urination in the morning, the color may be darker. The symptoms of hematuria can be gradually relieved within a week.
