Several treatment options for gastric cancer

Several treatment options for gastric cancer

There are many treatment methods for gastric cancer. First of all, we should consider whether surgical resection is possible. If it is not possible, we should consider other treatment methods. How to determine the treatment method for gastric cancer is also particular:

1. Comprehensive treatment plan that can be surgically removed

① Early gastric cancer: For early gastric cancer without lymph node metastasis, no adjuvant treatment for the tumor is required after the primary lesion is removed, regardless of whether the cancer is confined to the mucosa or has invaded the submucosal layer. If there is lymph node metastasis, chemotherapy is required, and the chemotherapy regimen can be selected as appropriate.

② Advanced gastric cancer: Radical resection surgery should be performed. For patients with clinically estimated stage III gastric cancer, especially patients with stage IIIb or IVa with large tumors, poor cell differentiation, and possible serosal infiltration, preoperative chemotherapy or radiotherapy can be performed if conditions permit, in order to improve the surgical resection rate and postoperative efficacy.

Intraoperative radiotherapy can be given to patients with stage II or III gastric cancer who have undergone radical resection, especially for those with second-stage lymph node metastasis or those who have only undergone relatively curative resection.

For patients who undergo palliative resection, if the cancer lesions remaining in the abdominal cavity are relatively localized, the lesions should be marked during surgery to facilitate local radiotherapy after surgery.

All advanced gastric cancers, whether undergoing radical or palliative resection and with or without lymph node metastasis, should be treated with chemotherapy after surgery.

2. Comprehensive treatment plan for patients who cannot undergo surgical resection

When gastric cancer is discovered and the tumor is already unresectable, or if it recurs after surgery and cannot be removed again, Chinese and Western medicine are mainly used for treatment. The specific plan is selected based on the patient's general condition, the site of tumor metastasis or recurrence, and previous medication use.
