Treatment principles for gallbladder cancer

Three months ago, 71-year-old Ms. Wang's CT scan showed gallbladder cancer with liver metastasis. At the time, the patient had no symptoms and was in good health, just like a healthy person. The doctor recommended chemotherapy and she was hospitalized for more than a month. During the chemotherapy, she had strong reactions and felt very uncomfortable. She took Chinese medicine for conditioning and her condition is very good. Except for having no strength to walk, she has recovered to be the same as a healthy person.

Treatments for gallbladder cancer mainly include surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, etc. The specific plan depends on the patient's specific condition and the stage of the tumor:

1. For patients with lesions limited to the mucosa, simple cholecystectomy can achieve good results, with a 5-year survival rate of 40% to 64%;

2. If the tumor has invaded the muscularis mucosa and the entire layer, and even has metastases to the liver hilum, common bile duct and retroduodenal lymph nodes, extended cholecystectomy is required; internal drainage should be considered as much as possible for obstructive jaundice caused by cancer invasion of the biliary system.

3. If gallbladder cancer has extensively infiltrated adjacent organs and the common bile duct is also involved and obstructed, surgical resection is no longer possible and radiotherapy can be performed;

4. Gallbladder cancer is insensitive to various chemotherapy drugs and it is difficult to observe their efficacy. It is mostly used for postoperative adjuvant treatment.

5. After the operation, other treatment methods are still needed to assist in speeding up the body's recovery and reducing the possibility of recurrence and metastasis.
