Preoperative preparation for laryngectomy

The main symptoms of laryngeal cancer patients are hoarseness, difficulty in swallowing and progressive aggravation, a lump in the neck, sore throat, cough and blood in sputum. Patients with more serious conditions need laryngectomy. So, what kind of nursing work needs to be done before the operation?

1. Family members should do a good job of ideological work for the patient and relieve the patient's tension, anxiety and pessimism. Doctors should patiently explain the necessity of the operation and let the patient understand the degree of voice recovery after the operation.

2. Make good overall hygienic preparations for the patient, take a bath the day before the operation, shave the face, and cut the nails short; keep the oral cavity clean and hygienic to prevent respiratory tract infections.

3. Patients need to undergo laryngeal examinations, such as laryngoscope, fiberoptic laryngoscope, X-ray examination and CT scan, to determine the location and spread of laryngeal cancer and to develop a complete treatment plan.

4. Patients with advanced laryngeal cancer or malnutrition should eat more high-protein, high-calorie, and high-vitamin foods a few days before surgery to improve the body's tolerance to surgery and improve surgical efficiency. Note that patients should fast for 8 to 12 hours before surgery. Some chronic organic diseases should also be corrected and controlled before surgery.

5. Perform penicillin and procaine allergy tests; conduct comprehensive blood and urine tests, liver and kidney function tests, esophageal fluoroscopy and electrocardiogram, etc. to prepare for the surgery.
