5 complications of ovarian cancer

Ovarian cancer is a very common tumor in women. Due to unreasonable diet, improper medication, tumor growth and unscientific treatment methods, ovarian cancer is likely to cause a series of complications.

1. Pedicle torsion: Cystic tumors with long pedicles, medium size, high mobility, and center of gravity biased to one side are prone to pedicle torsion, causing congestion, purple-brown color, and even rupture of blood vessels and bleeding. In acute pedicle torsion, the patient suddenly experiences severe lower abdominal pain, which may be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and even shock in severe cases.

2. Tumor rupture: Spontaneous rupture of the tumor may be caused by ischemic necrosis of the cyst wall or erosion of the tumor through the cyst wall. Traumatic rupture may be caused by squeezing, childbirth, gynecological examination and puncture. After rupture, the cyst fluid flows into the abdominal cavity and stimulates the peritoneum, which may cause severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and even shock.

3. Anemia: Anemia is a common complication of late-stage ovarian cancer. It is mainly due to long-term consumption and bleeding in the late stage, which leads to insufficient blood supply in the body, a gradual decrease in immune cells in the body, and ultimately a decrease in resistance.

4. Infection: Ovarian cancer infection is rare, and the main manifestations are fever, abdominal pain, increased white blood cell count, etc. Most patients may also have varying degrees of peritonitis. The infection is generally secondary to the torsion or rupture of the tumor pedicle.

5. Malignant transformation: When a tumor in an older patient, especially a postmenopausal patient, undergoes malignant transformation, it will rapidly increase in size in a short period of time. The patient will experience abdominal distension, loss of appetite, and often ascites.

Once complications occur, the treatment of ovarian cancer will become much more difficult and will also cause great pain to patients. Patients should be reminded that they must choose a regular hospital for examination and treatment to avoid delaying the disease.
