Bone cancer treatment should follow the treatment principles

Bone cancer treatment should follow the treatment principles

Bone cancer refers to a malignant tumor that occurs in the skeletal system. Current treatments mainly include surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and traditional Chinese medicine. To achieve good results in treating bone cancer, the principles of treatment must be followed.

1. Early bone cancer should be treated with surgical curettage or resection. Currently, the commonly used surgical methods include curettage, resection, amputation, limb resection and distal replantation of the bone tumor segment, amputation, and joint dislocation. The surgery should be thorough to avoid recurrence or malignant transformation.

2. Radiotherapy can be performed during the operation, usually using a one-time large-dose irradiation. Its biological effect is 2 to 2.5 times that of conventional fractionated irradiation. Due to the large side effects, full consideration should be given to whether the patient can tolerate it.

3. Patients with undifferentiated reticular cell sarcoma, primary reticular cell sarcoma of bone, multiple myeloma and some bone metastases may be given chemotherapy after surgery depending on their condition.

4. Patients with advanced bone cancer often cannot tolerate surgery and chemotherapy. They can choose Chinese medicine to relieve symptoms.

5. If tumor recurrence and metastasis occur after surgery, a second operation is required to prevent the disease from worsening.

6. Bone grafting can also be performed while the tumor is being removed or scraped, which helps the patient recover.

7. Chemotherapy for osteosarcoma often does not achieve the best therapeutic effect. To prevent tumor metastasis, amputation surgery can be performed. The Cade method is often used in the United States.

Tips: Application scope of Cade method

The Cade method is an elective amputation method used for patients with no lung metastases within 6 months after radiotherapy (radiation dose of 80 Gy).
