How to care after ovarian cancer surgery

How to care after ovarian cancer surgery

Ovarian cancer is a disease with a high mortality rate. Surgery is one of the commonly used treatments. In this process, nursing plays a very important role, so attention should be paid to care before and after surgery.

Preoperative care

Before surgery, it is best to communicate with the patient more, so that the patient with advanced ovarian cancer can relax, divert the patient's attention, and eliminate the nervous psychology. Family members should encourage the patient more and enhance her self-confidence. In addition, before surgery, the patient should be given a rest method according to the different conditions of the ovarian cancer patient, pay attention to the temperature, pay attention to the intake of high-calorie, high-vitamin, high-protein and low-fat diet, and fast for 6 to 8 hours before surgery.

Postoperative Care

Postoperative care may include dietary care and physical care for the patient, which can be specifically manifested as:

Diet care: Before intestinal peristalsis is restored, the patient should be given adequate and appropriate fluid replacement, a small amount of liquid food can be taken, and sweets should be avoided. After intestinal peristalsis is restored, eating can be encouraged. The postoperative diet is mainly light, high-protein, high-calorie, and low-fat. Appropriate potassium and sodium supplementation and infusion are required to prevent electrolyte disorders.

Physical care: After fully waking up from anesthesia, the patient should take a semi-recumbent position as early as possible to relax the abdominal wall, which can reduce the pain of the abdominal wall incision and facilitate deep breathing exercises, making it easier to cough up lung secretions. In addition, the patient should be encouraged to get up and move around early to promote the recovery of intestinal peristalsis, reduce abdominal distension, and reduce complications such as lung infection, thrombosis and bedsores.
