Postoperative consolidation therapy for prostate cancer

Postoperative consolidation therapy for prostate cancer

Currently, surgical treatment is the most commonly used treatment for prostate cancer in clinical practice. However, surgical treatment alone cannot completely remove the tumor. If effective measures are not taken, the residual cancer cells in the body can easily cause recurrence and metastasis. Therefore, consolidation treatment should be taken after surgery to reduce the chance of recurrence and metastasis.

1. Radiotherapy

The purpose of postoperative radiotherapy is to use radiation energy to kill cancer cells that have not been completely eliminated after surgery and prevent the chance of postoperative recurrence and metastasis. However, radiotherapy has great limitations for elderly, weak or physically poor patients, and can easily lead to under-treatment or over-treatment, causing serious damage to the patient's body.

2. Chemotherapy

The purpose of chemotherapy after prostate cancer surgery is to kill the tiny lesions remaining in the body after surgery. Most of the remaining cancer cells after surgery are in the active growth phase and are sensitive to chemotherapy. A symptomatic combined treatment plan should be selected according to their tissue type and pathological stage. Starting systemic chemotherapy as early as possible will be of great help in preventing tumor metastasis and recurrence.

3. Tumor biotherapy

Tumor biotherapy is a highly targeted systemic treatment method that has continued to mature and develop based on the principles of human immunology. It is a green tumor treatment model that achieves autonomous killing of tumor cells and inhibits the immune escape of tumor cells by enhancing the activity of one's own immune cells.

4. Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment

Traditional Chinese medicine treatment can reduce the toxic and side effects of chemotherapy and also has a certain anti-tumor effect. However, traditional Chinese medicine treatment requires observation of the patient's tongue and pulse, so treatment must be done in a regular hospital. In addition, traditional Chinese medicine treatment cannot be used as the main treatment method. Generally, it plays an auxiliary role in order to improve the patient's quality of life.
