Many people don't care much about the pain and lumps in the buttocks, but don't forget that there are reasons for this. Whenever the skin shows symptoms to us, it means that there may be an illness. The lumps in the buttocks can be considered as piriformis syndrome. This disease can also cause pain in the lower limbs and buttocks, and may even cause inflammation, so you need to be especially careful. one. Piriformis syndrome can cause hip pain Piriformis syndrome The piriformis muscle originates from the front of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th sacral vertebrae, is distributed on the inner surface of the pelvis, enters the buttocks through the greater sciatic foramen, and ends at the greater trochanter of the femur. This muscle is prone to traumatic inflammatory changes due to acute or chronic injuries, or anatomical variations, which can stimulate or compress the nerves and cause low back and leg pain. This is called piriformis syndrome, also known as femoral nerve pelvic outlet syndrome. Patients complain of pain in the buttocks and lower limbs, which is mostly chronic and sometimes acute. It worsens after walking or activity, and intermittent claudication may occur, which is relieved by bed rest. two. Sciatica can cause buttock pain Sciatica Idiopathic sciatica: This is when the sciatic nerve becomes inflammatory or is directly damaged (buttocks injection, surgery). The onset is relatively acute, and the pain radiates along the sciatic nerve from the buttocks through the back of the thigh and the fossa to the outer side of the calf to the distal end. The pain is continuous and dull, and may intensify paroxysmically or become a burning and stabbing pain. The pain is relieved when standing. Some people suddenly feel a sharp pain in one side of the buttocks, accompanied by numbness in the leg and foot on the same side, and then the pain slowly disappears. three. Radicular sciatica can cause hip pain Radicular sciatica It is mostly caused by intraspinal and spinal lesions such as intervertebral disc herniation, spinal osteoarthritis, spinal bone tumors and thickening of the yellow ligament. The onset is relatively slow, and there is a history of chronic low back pain. The pain is more obvious when sitting than when walking, and the pain is relieved or disappears when lying down. The symptoms may recur. The skin sensation on the lateral side of the calf and the dorsum of the foot is reduced or disappears, the flexor muscle strength is weakened when the foot and toes are dorsiflexed, and the ankle reflex is weakened or disappears. This type of lesion can be examined with X-rays to assist in diagnosis. Four. Buttock abscess can cause buttock pain Abscesses can be deep or shallow. Generally, abscesses formed in the subcutaneous soft tissue are called shallow abscesses, while abscesses formed under the deep fascia and muscle layer and in the deep tissue spaces are called deep abscesses. The buttocks muscles are developed into several parts, the largest of which is the gluteus maximus. If purulent infection occurs in this muscle or between muscles, deep abscesses will form. five. Sciatic nerve sheath tumors can cause buttock pain Neurofibromas occur in the sensory, motor or mixed peripheral nerve sheath cells, and are more common in the cervical and limb nerves. They are generally about 3 cm in size, and a few are larger than 10 cm. Sciatic nerve sheath tumors cause a bulge on the buttocks, and a huge mass can be felt deeper. Surgery is the only treatment for this disease. six. Superior gluteal neuritis can cause buttock pain Superior gluteal neuritis is also known as "lumbar spinal nerve posterior ramus pain". Its causes are multifaceted, such as intervertebral facet joint lesions, bone hyperplasia, compression of the posterior ramus of the spinal nerve, and chronic aseptic inflammation of the posterior ramus. Because the superior gluteal cutaneous nerve comes from the lateral cutaneous branches of the posterior rami of the L1 to L3 spinal nerves and is distributed in the skin on the outer side of the buttocks, pain often occurs in the waist, buttocks, and thighs, and rarely exceeds the knee joint. Make a comprehensive judgment based on medical history, symptoms and signs. There is tenderness and a hard, cord-like mass in the soft tissue 3 to 5 cm below the highest point of the iliac crest. seven. Dense sacroiliitis can cause hip pain A nonspecific inflammation characterized by bone sclerosis. There is a highly dense bone sclerosis, especially in the lower 2/3 of the ilium, but no change in the joint space. There is recurrent low back pain, which sometimes radiates downward to the buttocks and thighs on both sides. |
