What are the chemotherapy methods for gastric cancer

Chemotherapy is currently one of the main means of treating gastric cancer and is widely used in clinical practice. The most common chemotherapy methods are as follows:

Radical chemotherapy: In the classification of chemotherapy for gastric cancer, conventional chemotherapy should be given to patients with advanced gastric cancer who have undergone surgery or are not suitable for surgery to prolong survival and improve the quality of life. Commonly used anticancer drugs include 5-fluorouracil, mitomycin, doxorubicin, carboplatin or cisplatin, hydroxycamptothecin, paclitaxel, and levofloxacin. Generally, a "combination chemotherapy" method of using several drugs together is used, mainly by intravenous injection.

Adjuvant chemotherapy: Adjuvant chemotherapy refers to chemotherapy after surgical resection of the tumor or after radiotherapy. The expected goal is to control residual cancer foci and eliminate micro-cancer foci to delay or control the recurrence and metastasis of the tumor. Adjuvant chemotherapy is essentially a component or continuation of radical treatment. It is the most widely used clinically. Chemotherapy for gastric cancer should be performed before, during and after surgery.

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy: 2-3 times of preoperative chemotherapy for gastric cancer are given through special methods before surgery, usually interventional therapy, intraperitoneal chemotherapy pump, etc., to shrink the lesion, reduce the clinical stage, and increase the chance of radical resection. The main advantage is that the drug effect is concentrated on the tumor site, with little side effects on the whole body, which can improve the quality of life and greatly increase the chance of radical resection.
