I am a 26-year-old boy who had surgery for colon cancer. The doctor and my family said it was in the middle stage. I had chemotherapy after the surgery and now I feel OK. I went to the hospital for a checkup and they said it had not metastasized to the liver or pancreas, but cancer cells were found in the intestine. Is there any good treatment plan for this situation? Is chemotherapy alone not a complete cure? What are the symptoms of late-stage colon cancer?

The first thing that needs to be confirmed is that chemotherapy alone cannot completely cure colon cancer. Generally speaking, the late stage of colon cancer is manifested by a mass that can be felt on the right side of the abdomen, which has a nodular feel and is difficult to move. When the mass is infected, it is tender. At the same time, the patient will have symptoms such as progressive anemia, low fever, progressive weight loss, vomiting, hepatomegaly, jaundice and ascites. If there is only a simple right abdominal mass, it cannot be proved to be a late stage manifestation.

Secondly, the treatment principle of colon cancer is comprehensive treatment with surgery as the main method, but cancer cells cannot be removed. As colon cancer grows and develops, it gradually metastasizes to distant sites. Three-quarters of patients already have metastasis at the time of diagnosis; for those who can undergo radical surgical resection, half of the patients will eventually develop distant metastasis.

Chemotherapy is only an important part of the comprehensive treatment of colon cancer. In addition, depending on the condition, multiple treatment methods such as radiotherapy, biological therapy, and drug therapy may also be used. Chemotherapy alone cannot completely cure colon cancer.
