Experts explain common colon cancer surgeries

Surgery is currently a commonly used method for treating colon cancer in clinical practice. It is the first choice for many colon cancer patients. Colon cancer surgery brings hope to patients. So what are the common colon cancer surgeries ? Let's ask experts to tell you about the common colon cancer surgeries.

In general, common surgeries for colon cancer include:

1. Local resection. This type of colon cancer surgery is suitable for early stage rectal cancer with small tumor, limited to mucosa or submucosa, and high degree of differentiation. The main surgical methods for colon cancer are transanal local resection and posterior sacral local resection.

2. Abdominoperineal combined radical resection of colon cancer. This type of colon cancer surgery is suitable for anal canal cancer, lower rectal cancer, or patients with anal incontinence, outlet obstruction constipation, etc. The scope of colon cancer surgery includes the distal sigmoid colon, the entire rectum, the inferior mesenteric artery and its regional lymph nodes, the entire mesorectum, the levator ani muscle, the fat in the ischiorectal fossa, the anal canal and the skin around the anus of about 3-5cm, the subcutaneous tissue and the entire anal sphincter, and a permanent sigmoid colon single-lumen stoma is performed in the left lower abdomen. Now there are special artificial anal bags, which are convenient for postoperative care of colon cancer without affecting social interaction and work.

3. Transabdominal colon cancer resection. This is the most commonly used colon cancer surgery. Recent studies have found that colon cancer rarely infiltrates more than 2 cm downward, so the lower resection margin is required to be 3 cm away from the lower edge of the tumor. With the widespread use of colon staplers, ultra-low anastomosis can often be successfully performed after resection of colon cancer 6 cm away from the anal verge, which has expanded the indications for anal preservation resection for colon cancer and increased the anal preservation rate.

4. Transabdominal colon cancer resection and proximal stoma. This type of colon cancer surgery is suitable for patients who are not suitable for Dixon surgery due to poor general condition, old age, and frailty, who cannot tolerate Miles surgery, or who have acute rectal obstruction, anal incontinence, and other reasons.

The above is an introduction to common colon cancer surgeries. I believe everyone has some understanding of this. For more questions about colon cancer surgery, you can consult our online experts, who will answer them in detail.
