Why do my feet hurt when I wake up?

There are many reasons for waking up with pain in the soles of your feet. It may be that the shoes do not fit well, or it may be caused by fatigue. These are all normal phenomena. You don’t have to worry too much. Pay more attention to rest and the pain will gradually ease. However, if it is caused by plantar fasciitis, in addition to active treatment, you also need to do a good job of health care to prevent the condition from worsening and seriously affecting your daily life and work.

The cause of plantar fasciitis is aseptic inflammation of the tendons or fascia on the sole of the foot. The most common symptom is heel pain and discomfort. The tenderness point is often near the heel on the sole of the foot, and it persists. Plantar fasciitis is a chronic sports-related injury. Overtraining can also cause heel pain that sometimes radiates to the front of the foot. This disease can affect adults of all ages.

Plantar fasciitis is a sterile inflammation caused by acute or chronic damage to the tendon or fascia of the plantar foot due to long-term overload pressure. The plantar fascia is a band-like joint located deep in the plantar fat layer. It is mainly composed of three parts: the central band, the lateral band and the medial band. The thickness of each part is different, and they are divided by two shallow grooves.

Traditionally, plantar fasciitis is considered to be a local muscle strain that causes the loss of fat tissue in the heel, resulting in chronic bursitis directly at the joint, leading to aseptic inflammatory reactions such as local fascia fibrosis and adhesion, causing nerve pain on the inside and outside. But in fact, studies have shown that when plantar fascia causes pain, there is no inflammation, it is just degenerative changes in the tissue. So plantar fasciitis does not cause inflammation, it is just degenerative changes in the sole of the foot.

So how do you diagnose plantar fasciitis? Plantar fasciitis can be diagnosed based on its clinical manifestations. Plantar fasciitis is generally hidden, and patients generally have no history of trauma. The disease develops relatively slowly. In a small number of patients, the disease is caused by excessive exercise. Acute plantar fasciitis will manifest as pain in the heel area, making the patient afraid to walk. A careful examination will show that the heel is swollen and painful when pressed, and the patient can only walk with a limp. Chronic plantar fasciitis has a relatively slow onset. The main symptom is pain when taking the first step out of breath in the morning, or when taking the first step after being still for a long time. The pain will be relieved after walking for a while, but if you walk too long or stand too much, the pain will return. Moreover, as the disease progresses, any weight-bearing action will cause pain in the later stages, and patients will be unable to run or jump. For patients who stand for a long time, the pain will spread to the arch of the foot.

The main treatment for plantar fasciitis is to relieve pain by icing the heel. Haikou also uses topical anti-inflammatory drugs to relieve pain. You can also choose to undergo foot acupuncture. Proper exercise can also relieve pain. If the condition is severe, surgery can be used.
