How to eat with braces

You must be aware of some precautions when eating while wearing braces. If you do not eat properly, it may affect the results of the correction and often lead to rebound after the correction. For example, do not eat too cold or hot food, and try not to eat some sticky food, which will bring inconvenience to cleaning. Especially some hard foods cannot be eaten, which can easily affect the effect of the correction. Let's take a look at this aspect.

How to eat with braces

1. Overheated or overcold food: People generally don’t eat much overheated food, but many people like to eat cold food, such as ice cream, iced cola, etc. Little do people know that thermal expansion and contraction can cause braces to deform.

2. Sticky foods: chewing gum, bubble gum, rice cake, glutinous rice. Rice cakes, in particular, are the biggest culprit and are extremely inconvenient to clean up.

3. Spicy food: Try to avoid delicious Sichuan cuisine, Chongqing hotpot, boiled fish, etc. Although chili peppers will not damage your braces, they can easily make you get a sore throat. However, due to the constant friction between the braces and the inner wall of the mouth, the sores caused by inflammation are not easy to heal.

4. Hard foods: walnuts, ribs, crabs. Crabs are a great evil! How many steel teeth have been ruined by this tempting delicacy. Foods that can get stuck in your teeth: Pipa duck, barbecued pork, steak, beef jerky, etc.

5. Mango and chocolate! If you brush your teeth immediately after eating mango and chocolate, there should be no problem. Otherwise, you can only keep your lips tightly shut in front of others and never show your teeth, or wait for tragedy.

How long to use the retainer

The length of time a retainer is worn will vary depending on the patient's age, the course and content of orthodontic treatment, but it usually takes about 1 to 2 years. Although you do not need to return for monthly checkups during the maintenance period as you do during dynamic treatment, it is very important to ask the orthodontist to adjust the maintainer on the appointment day.

Please follow the doctor's instructions. The better you wear the retainer, the more stable the bones and teeth will be. It is recommended to wear it full-time in the first year, wear it at night after the second year, and choose to wear it twice a week at night after the third year. For cases completed between the ages of 12-18, it is a good suggestion to wear it until the age of 25 if possible. Although it is a little difficult, it is worth it. Come on!
