What is the cause of low fever

When patients have a fever, if they go to the hospital for treatment, many doctors will not give them medicine directly, but will measure the patient's temperature first. When the patient's temperature is above 38.5 degrees, they will use medicine. If it is still below 38.5 degrees, it is recommended that the patient use physical cooling methods, because most antipyretic drugs are very effective. So how many degrees is considered a low fever?

A low-grade fever refers to a body temperature between 37.3℃ and 38℃. A low-grade fever can also be physiological, meaning it is not a sign of illness. This low-grade fever is mostly between 37.2 and 37.5℃ (axillary temperature), with good spirits and appetite, no symptoms, and no abnormalities found through various examinations.

In this case, it is best to measure the rectal temperature at the same time. If the rectal temperature is below 38°C, it should not be considered a fever (the rectal temperature is 1°C higher than the axillary temperature). For children, this low fever is normal. Because the standard for normal body temperature is based on the values of most people, not an absolute value.

Traditional Chinese medicine says that fever is a symptom. Rheumatism, tuberculosis, chronic inflammation, low immunity and other diseases can cause persistent low fever. Long-term psychological tension and emotional instability can also cause disorders in the body temperature center, resulting in persistent low fever of unknown cause. A problem with any system in the body can cause a persistent low-grade fever. It is difficult to find out the cause of low-grade fever through routine tests such as blood, urine, and stool. Some low-grade fevers caused by bacterial infections can only be detected through bacterial culture.

Do not abuse medicine for unexplained low-grade fever. Fever is one of the body's responses to disease. Taking antipyretics for patients with low fever is not conducive to the treatment of the disease. Indiscriminate use of antipyretics may also lead to a decrease in white blood cells and aplastic anemia. Antipyretics should only be considered when the body temperature is above 38°C. If a low-grade fever persists, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible and undergo a comprehensive examination.

That’s all about the degrees of a low-grade fever. If you find yourself having symptoms of a low-grade fever, seek medical attention immediately and pay more attention to diet and health care. In addition, experts say that some early symptoms of malignant tumors or bacterial infections are also low-grade fever, so you should pay attention to changes in your body at ordinary times.
