Which department should I go to for costochondritis

Costochondritis is a disease that can be cured, but it will make patients very uncomfortable during the illness. Some patients do not know enough about the cause of the disease, so they do not know which department of the hospital to go to for treatment and examination. This phenomenon will delay the treatment of the disease. Since costochondritis is closely related to upper respiratory tract infection, everyone should pay attention to avoid upper respiratory tract infection when preventing it. So which department should costochondritis go to?

First, which department should I go to for costochondritis? First of all, I can go to the orthopedics department. When we don’t know its pathogenesis, we can consult a doctor first. Then treat the disease according to the metastasis of the lesion. Its prominent clinical manifestations are swelling and enlargement of the affected cartilage, obvious spontaneous pain and tenderness, and no local redness or heat changes. In most cases, only a single costal cartilage is invaded, but in some cases, more than two costal cartilages or multiple costal cartilages on both sides are invaded.

Second, you can also go to the surgery department, because the only symptom of costochondritis is local pain, which sometimes radiates to the shoulder or back. It is most common in the 2nd and 3rd costal cartilages. The pain worsens with coughing and upper limb movement. Examination may reveal that the costal cartilage in the affected area is swollen, raised and tender.

Third, prevention methods: Since the occurrence of this disease may be related to upper respiratory tract infection. Therefore, the first step to prevention is to avoid catching a cold. Open windows frequently to ventilate the room. Go to public places less often and participate in more sports activities to enhance your own resistance. Get a flu shot if necessary. Keep warm every day to prevent cold. When you are sweating, you should not take off your clothes immediately to avoid catching a cold. Clothing should be loose and dry. Avoid moisture. Pay attention to the combination of work and rest, and avoid overwork. When working, you should enhance your awareness of protection, use the correct posture when carrying heavy objects, avoid using excessive force, and beware of damage to the sternal costal cartilage and ligaments. Eat more vegetables and fruits, and more foods that enhance immunity, such as milk, eggs, fish, etc. Avoid spicy foods such as chili peppers and foods containing large amounts of animal fat, quit smoking (smoking is an important factor in the occurrence of serious complications), and do not drink strong alcohol.

Which department should I go to for costochondritis? Generally, you can also go to the thoracic surgery department. Since the costal cartilage cannot be visualized in X-rays, chest X-ray examinations cannot reveal signs of lesions, but they can help rule out intrathoracic lesions, chest wall tuberculosis, and rib osteomyelitis. B-ultrasound can show the swelling and structural remodeling of the costal cartilage, and it is easy to compare the swelling on both sides. At the same time, CT can well show the swelling and ossification of the cartilage. In fact, sometimes when we go to the hospital for a check-up, it is really difficult for us to choose which department to go to. Through the basic understanding above, we can also know some corresponding departments that patients with costochondritis should go to, which will bring great convenience to our examination. It will save us a lot of time.
