Are there any sequelae after suffering from nasopharyngeal cancer? How to prevent recurrence

Does nasopharyngeal carcinoma have sequelae? How to prevent recurrence?

1. After radiotherapy, NPC patients have serious sequelae, including bilateral mandibular joint dysfunction and injury to the mouth opening and closing muscles, resulting in limited mouth opening, and posterior cranial nerve damage leading to abnormal swallowing. These sequelae can lead to difficulty eating, or coughing and aspiration during eating, leading to chronic malnutrition and recurrent inhalation respiratory infections. At this time, in order to solve the patient's dietary problems and prevent chronic malnutrition and inhalation respiratory infections, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy is feasible.

2. Hoarseness after radiotherapy and chemotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma should first be considered as recurrence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Nasopharyngeal MRI is the standard for imaging examination, and Epstein-Barr virus antibody detection is also very important. If recurrence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma can be ruled out, local injury sequelae should be considered after radiotherapy.

Patients and their families should be instructed on the correct use of the drug:

1. Feed management guidance: Instruct patients on how to properly manage feed, including some preventive measures.

2. Nutritional guidance: According to the actual situation of each patient, rationally and scientifically match the nutrients to ensure the quantity and quality needs.

3. Instructions on cleaning and care of fistulas and fistulae.

4. Guidance on complication prevention: inform patients of relevant complications and seek medical attention promptly if they occur.

5. Regular follow-up.
