Buzzing in the ears may be caused by nasopharyngeal cancer

Recently, Mr. Li's ears seemed to have a faucet installed, and there was always a dripping sound. Mr. Li was upset by this tinnitus, and he often made mistakes at work, which made him miserable. Now more than a month has passed, and the sound in his ears has become louder and louder, like a train, and even his hearing has declined. He often can't hear clearly what his colleagues and family members say.

Mr. Li had to go to the hospital for a checkup because he thought it was just a minor problem of tinnitus. The doctor found something unusual in his nasopharynx during the examination. After a pathological biopsy, the doctor discovered the real culprit of Mr. Li's tinnitus - nasopharyngeal cancer.

In fact, the relationship between nasopharyngeal carcinoma and tinnitus is quite close. Statistics show that more than 65% of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients have tinnitus symptoms. The sounds in the patient's ears vary from person to person. Some sound like cicadas and insects, while others sound like wind and machine roars, etc., with varying degrees of severity. This is because there are two interconnected tubes between the nasopharynx and the middle ear cavity called the Eustachian tube. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma often occurs near the opening of the Eustachian tube, blocking the opening of the Eustachian tube on the side wall of the nasopharynx. Therefore, patients often experience tinnitus on the diseased side, which gradually worsens and is accompanied by symptoms such as hearing loss.

Therefore, if the patient has tinnitus symptoms and does not improve in the short term, relevant examinations should be carried out as soon as possible. Nasopharyngeal cancer can be detected early. For example, blood tests to detect Epstein-Barr virus antibodies can help detect early nasopharyngeal cancer.
