Experts say that because tea contains substances such as theanine, it can easily excite the human central nervous system. The bodies of infants and young children are still in the development stage, and their nervous systems have a weaker ability to inhibit excitatory substances and cannot regulate as effectively as adults. Therefore, after children drink tea, their heart rate will increase, which may lead to excessive physical exertion. If children drink tea at night, it will cause insomnia, frequent urination and other problems, affecting their sleep and thus their development.

Tea contains tannic acid and theanolide. Once these two ingredients enter the human body, they will inhibit the child's body's absorption of some trace elements, such as calcium, zinc, iron, magnesium, etc. Therefore, if children drink too much tea or strong tea, it may lead to a lack of trace elements in the body and even malnutrition. In addition, tea has a diuretic function. During the diuretic process, tannic acid and theanolide can also cause the loss of minerals such as calcium and phosphorus, thereby affecting the body's absorption of nutrients.

How old can children drink tea?

It is not recommended for children under 6 years old to drink tea. Children of 6 years old are not developmentally mature and are still growing. Drinking tea will inhibit the growth hormone in the body and will not make them grow taller.

1. Children under 6 years old are too immature in development. The stimulant substances contained in tea, such as theanine and caffeine, can easily cause children to become overly excited, have a rapid heartbeat, frequent urination, insomnia, etc.

2. The tannic acid in tea can also affect the digestion and absorption of protein, thereby affecting the normal development of children. Therefore, parents are not recommended to let children under 6 years old drink tea.

Children should not drink strong tea. Because when the concentration of tea is high, the content of tea polyphenols is too high, which can easily react with the iron in food, hindering the absorption of iron and easily causing iron deficiency anemia in children. Children can drink some light tea in moderation (one-third of the concentration of tea consumed by adults). Preschool children can drink some coarse tea because the content of tea polyphenols in coarse tea is lower.

1. Don’t drink tea before going to bed

3. Don’t drink tea that has been steeped for a long time

Tea should be brewed and drunk immediately, which is the best effect. If it is brewed for too long, the tea aroma will be lost and the vitamin C and vitamin B in the tea will be destroyed. In addition, if tea is steeped for a long time, the caffeine in it will accumulate too much and the tannic acid will increase greatly, which will have a stimulating effect. People with gout, cardiovascular and nervous system diseases should especially avoid drinking tea that has been steeped for a long time.

4. Don’t drink tea on an empty stomach

Drinking tea on an empty stomach can dilute gastric juice and reduce digestive function. In addition, the high absorption rate causes a large amount of harmful ingredients in tea to enter the blood, causing "tea drunkenness" phenomena such as dizziness, palpitations, weakness in the hands and feet, and headaches.

5. The type of tea you drink should be adjusted according to the season
