There is white discharge on the tonsils

We have all experienced going to the hospital for a check-up when our throat is uncomfortable. The doctor will ask people to open their mouths to observe the appearance of the tonsils inside the mouth. Some people will observe the inside of their mouths when they are at home, and they may find white secretions on their tonsils. These secretions may be stone particles, food residues, pus and other substances. Let’s learn more about it~

1. There is white stuff in the tonsil fossa

1. White or secretion

The tonsils themselves have crypts opening on their surface, which are most likely to be retained and multiplied by bacteria and viruses. If you do not pay attention to oral hygiene, when the tonsils are inflamed, the cells in the body will fall off or there will be more bacteria, and there will be more secretions at the crypt openings. The white secretions from the tonsil crypt openings are generally composed of food residues and pus discharged from the crypts (including white blood cells, bacteria and desquamated epithelial cells).

2. White or stone particles

Tonsil stones mostly occur in the crypts above the tonsils. If this area is blocked for a long time, secretions cannot be drained smoothly, and cheesy substances accumulate, causing insoluble inorganic salts such as calcium and magnesium to deposit and form stones. The core may be a small foreign body, desquamated epithelial cells or bacteria. The white, granular stuff may be tonsil stones. Most stones are accumulated tongue coating particles.

2. How to clean the white stuff in the tonsil crypts

Step 1: Pour warm water into the oral irrigator or Waterpik, start it and test the water line pressure to reach the appropriate level.

Step 2: Hold the dental floss and rinse the tongue coating and tongue root. Use warm water slowly and adjust the water flossing pressure to moderate, and rinse both sides of the tonsils.

Step 3: Gradually rinse the two sides of the tonsils. Sometimes the stones are loose and can be easily spit out with the help of coughing, and sometimes they are flushed into small particles.

Step 4: Finally, use mouthwash, rinse your mouth for about 10 seconds and spit it out to clean the fine particles in the mouth and increase antiviral ability.

3. Care after tonsil cleaning

Tonsil cleaning is not a one-time solution. Proper care is needed to reduce the cycle of stone accumulation and slowly make the stones disappear completely. The following points should be noted when caring for:

1. Keep your mouth clean and rinse your mouth after eating.

2. Rinsing your mouth with some gargle can help clean and reduce inflammation of the tonsils.

3. It is important to ensure adequate sleep, add or remove clothes in time according to weather changes, and remove humid air indoors. Sick children should develop good habits of not being picky about food and not overeating.

4. Keep exercising to improve the body's ability to resist disease. Do not overwork. If you feel tired, you should adjust and rest in time. Quitting smoking and drinking is an important step in preventing chronic tonsillitis.

5. Don't trust tonsillectomy surgery easily, as it increases the chance of infection. Even after removal, it still needs to be cleaned.
