Complications of osteotomy

Complications of osteotomy

We all don't want to encounter physical injuries, but sometimes in order to save our own lives, we have to sacrifice the small for the big. For example, sometimes we have to make the decision to amputate to ensure that our wounds do not become infected and necrotic, so as to save our lives. After making such a decision, we still need to take extra care of ourselves to ensure our own safety.

Surgical complications

Possible complications of mandibular angle osteotomy Mandibular angle surgery is not a minor surgery after all, and its possible complications include:

Mandibular fracture: It has a lot to do with the doctor's operation, but the fragility of the patient's own bones will increase this risk. Intermaxillary fixation or other timely treatment may be required. Generally, no serious sequelae will be left, but the postoperative recovery time will be increased.

Nerve damage: It is common for patients to feel numbness in the lower lip after surgery, which can last up to half a year. This is due to the traction of the mental nerve during the operation. It can be recovered, so there is no need to worry too much.

Bleeding: It is related to many factors. It is more rapid in facial artery rupture, but timely treatment will not cause serious consequences after the operation.

Mandibular angle is not smooth: it has a lot to do with the osteotomy method, the doctor's experience and aesthetics. It is mainly due to the fact that the straight osteotomy in the angle area causes the angle area and the mandibular body to be connected poorly, resulting in an obvious protrusion in the mandibular body.

Recurrence of mandibular angle: In the long term after surgery, the bone in the angle area regenerates, but it generally does not return to its preoperative state. We believe that this is often related to incomplete flushing of bone debris during surgery. There is also the possibility of hematoma, infection, bilateral asymmetry, and postoperative swelling.

Postoperative Care

1. Patients must stay in hospital for 3-5 days after surgery

2. The head mask should be bandaged for 5 to 7 days after surgery. It should not be removed without special circumstances. If it is removed, it should be bandaged immediately. Check whether the skin is damaged. If a drainage strip is placed in the oral wound, it should be removed 48 hours after surgery.

3. Do not do facial beauty massage or rub the surgical area within three months;

4 Start rinsing your mouth with mouthwash 6 hours after surgery until the stitches are removed;

5. Eat liquid food until the fifth day after surgery and try to avoid biting hard objects within three months;

6 Remove the stitches 7 days after surgery. Eat less spicy food and try to eat semi-liquid food.
